Verizon set to raise Text message prices

NEW YORK, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Verizon Wireless customers sent a record 10 billion text messages in June alone, and soon the company will charge 5 cents more per message.

The going rate of texts under Verizon will rate will jump to 20 cents per text message starting March 2, the New York Post reported Monday.

"Text messaging continues to grow at a very quick and steady pace," says Verizon spokesman David Shamberg. "It's not just something teenagers do."

Sprint Nextel, AT&T and T-Mobile have all raised their text messaging prices since 2006.
