Report: KLM Cargo faces steep fines

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, March 7 (UPI) -- The Dutch arm of Air France-KLM faces steep fines from the European Union for alleged air-cargo price fixing and fuel surcharges, a Dutch newspaper reports.

KLM is one of four European airlines U.S. and European authorities targeted in an investigation into possible price fixing and fuel surcharges by the airlines, The Telegraaf reported.

Air France-KLM Cargo Chairman Michael Wisbrun would likely resign if the European Commission fines the carrier, the newspaper said.

The other investigated airlines include British Airways, German carrier Lufthansa and Luxembourg freight airline Cargolux Airlines International.

The airlines said they were cooperating with the investigation. A European Commission spokesman declined to comment.
