'Instant book' on Libby trial planned

NEW YORK, March 6 (UPI) -- A New York publisher will put out a book on the I. Lewis Libby trial, the publisher said shortly after the former White House aide's guilty verdict Tuesday.

Union Square Press plans at least 75,000 paperback copies of "The United States v. I. Lewis Libby" in bookstores next month, Editorial Director Philip Turner said.

The book will consist of court transcripts and original reporting by Murray Waas, who covered the trial for the weekly political magazine National Journal.

"Like the published reports from the 9/11 Commission and the Iraq Study Group, the CIA leak case warrants a definitive book based upon the Libby trial record," Turner said in a statement.

Turner published Joseph Wilson's "The Politics of Truth: Inside the Lies That Led to War and Betrayed My Wife's CIA Identity" at his previous publishing house, Carroll & Graf, in 2004. Wilson is married to CIA operative Valerie Plame, whose leaked identity in 2003 triggered the Libby case.

Libby was convicted of lying to the FBI and blocking an investigation into the leak.

Turner launched Union Square as a non-fiction Sterling Publishing Co. imprint in November. Sterling is owned by Barnes & Noble Inc.
