NEW YORK, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. stock indexes closed mixed, with the Dow Jones industrial average and Standard & Poor's index down and the Nasdaq stock index up.
The Dow lost 52.39 points or 0.41 percent to close at 12,686.02. The broader S&P 500 slipped 1.25 or 0.09 percent to 1,456.38.
On the New York Stock Exchange, 1,507 stocks advanced and 1,757 declined on volume of 2.7 billion shares.
The technology-heavy Nasdaq index added 6.52 or 0.26 percent to 2,524.94.
In London, the FTSE 100 stock index closed up 23.80 or 0.37 percent at 6,380.90.
The Nikkei 225 stock average gained 195.58 or 1.09 percent to 18,108.79, closing above the 18,000 threshold for the first time since May 8, 2000.
The 10-year U.S. Treasury note was off 10/32, or $3.125 for every $1,000 invested, yielding 4.734 percent. The 30-year bond fell 20/32, yielding 4.832 percent.
The dollar was at 121.53 yen from 120.88 yen at Wednesday's close. The euro was at $1.3123 from $1.3139 late Wednesday.
