YouTube agrees to Japanese rights warning

TOKYO, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- YouTube has agreed to post warnings in Japanese against uploading copyright material, the company told Japanese copyright holders Tuesday.

YouTube also said it would try to filter out copyrighted Japanese video with the help of parent Google Inc., the Japanese TV stations, entertainment companies and other organizations.

The concessions came in a two-hour meeting with YouTube founders at the headquarters of the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers, which sent a complaint on behalf of the other companies to the popular video-sharing Web site.

The group had also asked YouTube to register the names and addresses of users making uploads and terminate the accounts of those who illegally upload copyrighted content, the IDG News Service reported.

"We are very satisfied with the direct negotiation realized ... but their reply itself is not satisfactory," society transmission-rights Manager Satoshi Watanabe said.

YouTube issued a statement asserting its commitment to respect copyright and thanking the organizations for the meeting.
