Australian wine packaging eco-friendly

PERTH, Australia, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- An Australian wine company is claiming a world first with new packaging that addresses environmental issues.

Palandri Wines of Margaret River, Western Australia, uses a fully recyclable soft plastic/aluminum foil combination instead of glass bottles.

A Palandri spokesman says the company is shipping 15,000 cases of its product to Canada over the next six months.

"The Ontario Liquor Control Board were given a mandate by their government to find eco-friendly packaging so, for them, it was about landfill as well as about recycling," he said.
