Web gives post-holiday shoppers preview

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- A number of Web sites plan to give U.S. shoppers a preview of their sales for Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that this new way of previewing stores may change the way some consumers shop on the busiest shopping day of the year. The Friday after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday because it has traditionally helped retailers go from red to black ink.

While some shoppers appear happy about the new feature, retailers are not, the Sentinel reported.

Kathy Grannis, spokeswoman for the National Retail Federation, said the previews take away from the competitive advantage of stores that have planned months ahead of time for the huge shopping day.

Black Friday, the Sentinel reported, typically brings in billions of dollars in sales revenue.
