Shell Offshore hires Technip for Perdido

HOUSTON, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Shell Offshore Inc. has hired France's Technip SA for the engineering, procurement and construction of an oil and natural gas production system.

The hull and mooring structure of Shell's Perdido Regional Host Project will be in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 200 miles south of Freeport, Texas, in about 8,000 feet of water, Technip said Friday.

Upon completion, Perdido will be the deepest so-called spar production facility in the world and the first with direct vertical access to cut costs and simplify repairs and workovers.

First production from Perdido is expected around the turn of the decade, with the facility capable of handling 130,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

The Perdido Regional Host will develop the three fields -- Great White, Tobago and Silvertip -- operated by Shell in this area of the Gulf of Mexico. Shell holds a 35-percent stake in Perdido, while Chevron Corp. has a 37.5-percent interest and BP PLC owns 27.5 percent.
