HANOI, Vietnam, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Officials at the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation urged resumption of global free trade talks.
Foreign and trade ministers from 21 Pacific Rim economies said Thursday they were committed to reviving the Doha Round of negotiations under the World Trade Organization, Kyodo said.
They also endorsed an Asia-Pacific regional free trade zone as a long-term goal and created two new sets of anti-piracy guidelines. Further, APEC ministers welcomed an initiative to include in this year's APEC leaders' statement that central government agencies "use only legal software and other copyright materials."
APEC consists of Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, South Korea, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.
