U.S. retail sales off slightly last week

NEW YORK, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. retail sales last week fell by 0.8 percent, an industry analysis has found.

The International Council of Shopping Centers Inc. and UBS Securities LLC also said Tuesday that the pace of demand slowed slightly by 2.1 percent, on a year-over-year basis.

"This past week, sales performance was mixed with strength coming in the West, and weakness coming from the Northeast," said Michael P. Niemira, ICSC's chief economist and director of research.

"Given the strong income growth this year, we continue to be optimistic on the holiday season as a whole. For November, we expect sales to grow by 3 percent or slightly below that mark."
