International oil rig count up last month

HOUSTON, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- The number of oil and natural gas rigs running outside the United States last month rose by 16 to 965, a private company said Tuesday.

Houston's Baker Hughes Inc. also said October's international rig count was up

62 from the 903 counted in October 2005. Also, the international offshore rig count for October 2006 was 274, up 10 from the 264 counted in September 2006 and up 10 from the 264 counted in October 2005.

The U.S. rig count for October 2006 was 1,734 down five from the 1,739 counted in September 2006 and up 255 from the 1,479 counted in October 2005.

The Canadian rig count for October 2006 was 431, down 15 from the 446 counted in September 2006 and down 110 from the 541 counted in October 2005.
