Suncorp-Metway planning to buy Promina

BRISBANE, Australia, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Financial services group Suncorp-Metway Ltd., of Brisbane, Australia, has agreed to buy Promina Group Ltd. for about $6 billion.

The boards of both companies unanimously agreed to the stock-and-cash deal, the Daily Telegraph reported Monday.

Upon completion of the merger, which is expected early next year, Promina shareholders will own about 30 percent of the combined group.

Promina, which is based in Sydney, sells auto and home insurance.
