Report: Job satisfaction by age and sex

BOSTON, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- A survey of U.S. workers finds that the keys to job satisfaction change over the course of a worker's career and usually vary by sex.

The American Business Collaboration, a consortium of seven major corporations, released a study Monday, that finds that -- while salary is the main key to satisfaction for both sexes -- advancement was the second most important key for men under 30, while for women of that age it was "meaningful work."

By the time they reach their 40s, men found job security the second most important satisfaction key while women rated the opportunity to grow and learn as their second most important source of job satisfaction. Salary remained the top factor for both sexes in their 40s.

The survey, which was conducted for ABC by Harris Interactive, the lack of both career development and advancement opportunities dissatisfies employees the most, followed by their salary and inability to fully utilize their abilities.
