WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- The U.S. National Labor Relations Board has affirmed that some types of supervisory work make an employee ineligible for union representation.
By a 3-2 vote, the five-member board's Tuesday decision has the effect of making employees ineligible for union representation who regularly exercises assigning authority, do so as a substantial part of their job description and apply independent judgment in the effort.

Labor unions decried the decision, made after evaluating three separate cases, but business groups wanted the board to go farther in, effectively, disqualifying supervisors from union representation.
