BRUSSELS, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- The European Commission OK'd the merger of Spain's Abertis toll road manager and Autostrade SpA, an Italian rival.
The commission had been investigating the proposal for antitrust issues.

Abertis, created by the merger between Acesa and Aurea, operates in Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, Britain, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Chile and Colombia.
Autostrade, controlled by the Benetton family, holds the concession for the management and maintenance of the Italian toll highway network.
Upon completion of the $15 billion merger, the resulting entity will be called New Abertis.
