Dell lands U.S. Army contract

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has hired Dell Inc. to deliver desktop and notebook computers, displays, printers and peripherals for three years.

The contract, which extends a five-year-old hardware deal, has a purchasing ceiling of $5 billion and options to extend to a total of 10 years, Dell said Wednesday.

The Texas-based company said the Army's Desktop Mobile Computing contract is part of an effort to standardize its hardware.
