Marathon settles strike with Teamsters

ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Marathon Oil refinery workers have voted overwhelmingly to end a seven-week strike by ratifying a three-year contract with the U.S. energy company.

A spokesman for Teamsters Local 120 said Wednesday the 170 members, who work at Marathon's St. Paul, Minn., refinery, "muted concessionary demands entirely, developing alternative solutions to underlyng issues or structuring resolutions to protect Teamster members."

"Our members took a stand against a multi-billion-dollar oil company," said Teamsters Local 120 Secretary-Treasurer Brad A. Slawson Jr.

Unions from Change to Win Minnesota, a labor federation consisting of the Teamsters, SEIU, UFCW, UNITE-HERE, the Carpenters and the Laborers, helped, as did AFL-CIO affiliates like the Minneapolis Central Labor Union Council, and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1005, Slawson said.
