HealthSouth to shed two businesses

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- HealthSouth Corp., which has headquarters in Alabama, has hired Goldman Sachs Group Inc. to help it shed its outpatient-rehabilitation and surgery units.

The company expects to sell or spinoff those businesses as it recovers from an accounting scandal and works to cut its $3 billion debt load, The Wall Street Journal reported.

HealthSouth is the largest U.S. provider of inpatient-rehabilitation services for patients disabled by head injuries, strokes and other serious medical problems.
