Winn Dixie laying off nearly 600

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., July 28 (UPI) -- Florida's Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. plans to close seven stores and lay off nearly 600 workers in late August.

The big grocery chain filed documents with the state's Agency for Workforce Innovation, saying it will lay off at least 82 workers at each of six stores in Florida, a total of 577 employees, American City Business Journal reported Friday.

The company said it would offer employees jobs at nearby company stores where possible.
