Hyundai work stoppage intensifies

SEOUL, July 13 (UPI) -- South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co. faced worsening labor strife Thursday as unionized assembly-line employees increased their work stoppage.

The 44,000 workers at the nation's biggest carmaker decided to increase from eight to 12 hours a job action that began June 26, Joongang Ilbo reported.

The union, which has been demanding a 9.1-percent pay raise among other benefits, has been conducting stoppages since June 26.
