Ahold puts Tops supermarkets on the block

LONDON, July 10 (UPI) -- Royal Ahold NV of the Netherlands is looking for a buyer of its Tops supermarket chain, which owns 46 stores in northeast Ohio.

William Blair & Co, a Chicago investment bank, is coordinating talks with interest parties, the Financial Times reported over the weekend.

Ahold, which is the world's fourth-largest food retailer and distributor, may sell all its Tops stores to one buyer or it may sell groups of Tops outlets to various companies.
