EU OK's Slovenia's use of the euro in '07

LONDON, June 16 (UPI) -- The European Union has cleared Slovenia to begin using the euro single currency beginning Jan. 1.

Slovenia gained permission for the move because it met EU standards regarding budget deficits, public debt, interest rates and inflation, the BBC reported Friday.

EU finance ministers plan to fix the exchange rate between the euro and Slovenia's tolar next month.
