Ford's latest tactic: free gas cards

DEARBORN, Mich., June 1 (UPI) -- Ford Motor Co. Thursday began offering zero-percent financing and a $1,000 gasoline debit card to new-vehicle buyers.

The initiative, which comes after another grim sales month for the No. 2 U.S. carmaker, runs until the end of July and includes the offer of a pre-paid MasterCard debit card that can be used to purchase up to $1,000 of gas, E-85 or diesel.

Buyers of select trucks and sport utility vehicles will be offered cards with $1,100 on it. Alternatively, customers can choose bonus cash of $1,000 which can be taken in cash or applied to the purchase agreement.

Ford's zero-percent financing deal applies to most models being sold. On a 60-month, $20,000 new vehicle loan, zero percent financing can save consumers as much as $60 a month over national average bank rates, Ford said.
