Britain to address gender pay gap

LONDON, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Britain's Women at Work Commission is set to deliver a report that provides a plan to address a huge "gender pay gap."

The landmark report, set to be delivered to Prime Minister Tony Blair and Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown Monday, will outline 40 recommendations to address girls being steered towards "stereotypical" choices in school, the "undervaluing" of women's jobs on a large scale, the lack of training for women and unequal pay, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

While girls outperform boys at school, the average woman's earnings are 13 percent lower than the average man's in full-time jobs -- while women who work in part-time jobs earn 41 percent less than men working in part-time jobs, the report said.

The report found that removing barriers for women and increasing overall female employment levels could add between $26 billion to $40 billion to Britain's earnings every year.
