JAKARTA, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Indonesia's navy plans to buy 12 combat submarines from Russia before 2024, Novosti said Tuesday.
First Adm. Abdul Malik Yusuf, chief spokesman for the Indonesian navy, said the vessels were strategic armaments allowing the country to maintain security in its territorial waters.

The admiral said the Indonesian waters were defenseless against the penetration of foreign ships.
