Cruise ship passengers reported ill

SOUTHAMPTON, England, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Some passengers on a ship that left Britain's Southampton port Jan. 8 on a cruise reportedly have come down with a stomach bug.

Doctors have been treating some of the 1,700 passengers on board the 69,000-ton Oriana for the contagious norovirus, formerly called Norwalk Virus, Sky News reported. The virus causes vomiting and diarrhea.

In another maritime incident, a 38-day cruise around South America on Britain's largest ocean liner the Queen Mary 2 was halted because of a propulsion unit problem, Sky News reported.

The 150,000-ton ship carrying 2,500 passengers had to return to port at Fort Lauderdale in Florida shortly after sailing.
