WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Vaccines for saving the lives of millions of children in poor countries are not reaching them on time because of errors and business problems.
These vaccines include one to protect against a life-threatening pneumonia which has been available to children in the United States for five years, reports The Washington Post. Another protects against a deadly form of diarrhea, which will soon be available in middle-income countries in Latin America, the Post said.
With help from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to improve global health, doctors have been trying to deliver the vaccines to rich and poor countries but their efforts have been stymied by numerous misjudgments and errors. It is feared these problems will force a delay of three to five years for the vaccines to reach the poorest villages.
