Danes feel bullied by beef from Brazil

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Danish beef producers are feeling bullied by less expensive Brazilian beef imports, the Copenhagen Post said Monday.

And if current World Trade Organization talks aimed at global free trading succeed, even the meager tariffs that currently "protect" Danish farmers could disappear, some farmers say.

The Danish Meat Producers' Council is warning that the import of Brazilian beef will most likely increase 40 percent next year.

Some Danish farmers, though, are deciding that if they can't beat the Brazilians, they will join them. Danish Crown, a well-known brand that is owned by Danish farmers, has begun importing Brazilian beef to repackage and sell to existing European customers.
