SEATTLE, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Providence Health System hospitals in Oregon will refund money to uninsured patients who paid full price while insured patients were given discounted rates.
The settlement is the first among 60 such lawsuits against non-profit hospitals across the United States, The Seattle Times reported.

Under the agreement with the Seattle-based hospital chain, uninsured patients will get the same discount as those with insurance.
Providence Health System in Oregon Chief Executive Russ Danielson said, while the hospital system disagreed with the allegations, it settled the suit to avoid the cost of a trial and to focus on providing care.
