'Natural Cures' infomercials ruled fair

CHICAGO, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction against the New York State Consumer Protection Board in a dispute over a natural cures book.

The order prohibits the CPB from directly contacting cable or broadcast outlets to induce the stations to refuse to carry, or cease to carry, advertisements for the book, said Neil Sant, president of the Alliance Publishing Group Inc.

The Chicago federal court order Tuesday protects as First Amendment speech the infomercial advertisements for Kevin Trudeau's book, "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About."

The book's advertisements say, "The FDA, the FTC, the American Medical Association and government agencies do not want you to know about (natural cures) because it would cut into the profits of multi-national pharmaceutical corporations."

The court said Trudeau's infomercials were fair and accurate advertisements for the book. The CPB had argued the infomercials were misleading.

Sant issued a statement Wednesday saying: "It is clear that certain government officials are threatened by this book because it exposes the government's misconduct and because it is a best-seller that strikes a chord with Americans everywhere."
