WASHINGTON, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Group Loop is an online resource for support and education for U.S. teens with cancer and their parents.
Cancer is the leading cause of death for U.S. teenagers, but there are few support services targeted for teens.
Teens already struggle with many issues, but "add cancer to the mix and the reality leaves most teens lonely and disconnected from their peers, relying more, instead of less, on their parents," says Mitch Golant, vice president of The Wellness Community, the organization which created Group Loop.
GroupLoop.org offers a range of information for coping, such as ideas for dealing with school as well as free, online support groups -- available for parents as well as teens -- supervised by professionally trained and licensed facilitators.
The Web site also offers a global venue for teens with cancer to connect with their peers about anything -- from missing the prom to death.
