Australia and Malaysia resume trade talks

SYDNEY, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Australia and Malaysia resumed free trade talks in Kuala Lumpur Thursday.

"The two-day meeting will provide a timely opportunity to reiterate the importance of a comprehensive and liberalizing agreement that delivers real benefits to the business communities of both countries," said Mark Vaile, Australian Trade Minister, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Vaile and his Malaysian counterpart Rafidah Aziz are expected to review progress made on initiatives established at the last meeting, including coal exploitation, construction and medical equipment.

The two trading partners are expected to discuss developments in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum and trade reforms in the World Trade Organization.
