Sprint Nextel discloses spinoff plans

RESTON, Va., Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Sprint Nextel Corp.'s local phone division, which will be spun off, will have about $7.25 billion in debt once freed from its Virginia parent.

The spinoff company, which has yet to be named, also will pay a $300 million annual cash dividend, Sprint Nextel, based in Reston, Va., American City Business Journals said Monday.

That debt level should allow the spinoff to receive an "investment grade" credit rating from the leading ratings agencies.

The spinoff will take place in the next nine to 12 months and have an estimated equity value of about $10 billion.
