Mongolian mine to boost production

ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia, July 5 (UPI) -- Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. said Tuesday it expected copper and gold production from its Mongolian mine to climb to about 150,000 tons per day.

The Canadian company said a recent discovery of "extensive, high-grade copper and gold mineralization" has prompted engineers to re-evaluate its development plan for the site.

Once that development plan is completed and implemented, production will rise to about 140,000 to 160,000 tons per day, an Ivanhoe spokesman said.

Ivanhoe also is negotiating with the Mongolian government about increased electricity needs to run the expanding mining operation.
