Domino's Pizza expands in Scotland

GLASGOW, Scotland, April 2 (UPI) -- Ann Arbor, Mich.,-based Domino's Pizza has announced plans to open more franchises in Scotland, creating some 150 jobs within the next two years.

Domino's U.K. Chief Executive Stephen Hemsley told The Scotsman the pizza delivery company was planning to add another 16 franchises to its existing 24 across in Scotland with six set to open before the end of the year.

"In the U.K., Scotland is only second to Ireland in terms of key markets for us, so the demand is certainly there to warrant the expansion," he said.

Although, Scotland's population is declining, the market for fast food was growing, according to Hemsley.

Domino's currently serves about 800,000 of some 2.1 million Scottish households, but once the expansion has occurred, the access to the pizza company should double in Scotland.

The new outlets scheduled to be opened this year are: Aberdeen, Kirkcaldy, Dumfries, two in Glasgow and one in Edinburgh.
