CHICAGO, March 7 (UPI) -- Electronic glitches halted Chicago Board of Trade activity for more than two hours Monday, but trading in open outcry markets was unaffected, officials said.
"Access to the e-bot electronic trading system incurred intermittent connectivity issues this morning," said CBOT Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Bryan Durkin in a statement. "As a result, it was determined that a temporary suspension of electronic trading was appropriate in order to maintain consistent and fair access for all market participants."
Computer problems halted trading from 9:20 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., CST, then went out again until 12:30 p.m. affecting commodities markets in Kansas City, Minneapolis and Winnipeg.
Exchange officials said trading continued in open auction markets and all CBOT markets closed at their regularly scheduled times.
