Wyoming uranium mine may reopen

RIVERTON, Wyo., Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Rising world uranium prices have prompted Canadian and U.S. interests to seek to reopen some Wyoming uranium mines.

British Columbia-based Bell Coast Capital Corp. and Wyoming's U.S. Energy Corp. recently formed a partnership that aims to reopen the Sheep Mountain uranium mines located in the Crooks Gap mining district in Fremont County, the Caspar (Wyo.) Star Tribune said Friday.

The partnership hopes to begin producing uranium oxide, or "yellowcake," by the middle of next year.

The Sheep Mountain mines were first developed in the 1970s. Current reserves are estimated between 10 million and 20 million pounds. The mines haven't been active since the 1990s.
