Home tech networks sell best in new homes

MONTEREY, Calif., Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The California-based Internet Home Alliance said Tuesday a home tech like security system is more appealing if it comes with a new home, CNET.com reports.

A study by the Monterey, Calif.-based IHA shows tht most new home buyers want home tech networks, such as security systems, cable or satellite TV wiring, or built-in home theater equipment. Those in homes not outfitted with such technology don't want to deal with the hassle of installation.

A Harris Interactive survey in January showed 75 percent of Americans don't have any home networks and don't plan to add one.

The IHA surveyed more than 400 new home buyers and found half intended to add at least one home tech network as part of buying a new home, while about 70 percent said they were planning to add more home tech systems with technology purchased and installed by someone other than the contractor.
