WASHINGTON, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael Powell announced his resignation Friday.
The son of outgoing Secretary of State Colin Powell has been at the FCC for the past four years. During his tenure, he faced a number of problems including the failure to relax regulations restricting television and radio ownership.

In a statement announcing his departure, Powell, 41, made no specific comment as to why he was leaving. "It is time for me to pursue other opportunities and let someone else take the reins of the agency," he said.
Powell will leave his post in March.
