Moscow court rejects Yukos lawyer's plea

MOSCOW, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- The Moscow City Court Monday upheld a decision against a lawyer hired by Russia's troubled oil giant Yukos, Interfax news agency reported.

The court let stand the decision by the Basmanny Court, also in Moscow, that found formal elements of a crime had been carried out by Yukos lawyer Yelena Agranovskaya, reported the news agency quoting Yury Larin, a lawyer for Agranovskaya.

The Moscow City Court also upheld the Basmanny Court's decision of Dec. 9 authorizing a 10-day arrest for Agranovskaya and rejected an appeal on this ruliong too from Agranovskaya's defense, Interfax said.

The Basmanny Court had authorized the arrest of Agranovskaya, managing partner in the ALM Feldmans law firm, based on a request from the Russian Prosecutor General's Office, the news agency said.

Yukos was the largest oil corporation in Russia until it was dismembered in a 15-month long legal drive authorized by the Kremlin.
