BLOOMINGTON, Ill., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- The largest U.S. car insurer says it mistakenly resold some 30,000 vehicles without disclosing they had been in wrecks.
State Farm Insurance, which insures 20 percent of U.S. vehicles, also said it would pay $40 million in damages to the drivers who bought those vehicles, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday. Payments will range from $400 to $10,000.

The unintentional lapse in labeling cars, SUVs and trucks as having been in wrecks, extends back about five years, the company said Monday.
