Strong industrial production growth is powering the wider economy which grew by 6.1 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2004 and by 6.9 percent in the first quarter.

However, other official figures released Friday suggested inflationary pressures remained strong in the Polish economy. Producer prices were up 8.7 percent year-on-year in August compared with 8.6 percent producer price growth in July.

The central bank has made a series of interest rate hikes in recent months to counter inflationary pressure and has warned it will make further hikes if inflationary pressures fail to subside.
