Asia must cooperate to fight malnutrition

NEW DELHI, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Asian countries should work together to improve the nutrition levels of the poor in the region, a senior Asian Development Bank official said Friday.

The Manila-based ADB's Vice President Geert van der Linden attended a health ministers' meeting in New Delhi focusing on maternal and child nutrition, and pointed out to ministers that Asia still has the largest number of malnourished children.

Van der Linden said countries could help each other by sharing information, and coming up with regional standards on issues such as salt and wheat fortification to ensure that commodities that move between countries meet certain standards.
