BRASILIA, Brazil, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- The Brazilian Senate invited the nation's central bank president to testify on allegations of tax evasion, Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper reported Thursday.
Federal authorities said last week they had been investigating Henrique Meirelles since June on alleged misdeeds such as tax evasion as well as failure to report bank deposits into accounts outside Brazil.

Meirelles has denied any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, Brazil's ruling left-wing Workers' Party said the investigation was creating "a climate of crisis" just when the economy is beginning to show signs of real recovery.
