LONDON, June 30 (UPI) -- The ex-wife of the man who created the French Connection fashion company won Britain's largest divorce settlement.
Alisa Marks' $90 million settlement is deemed the largest in the history of the United Kingdom, the Times of London reported Wednesday.
On Tuesday Stephen Marks, 58, sold nearly $72 million of shares in the clothing retailer to help cover the court's award to his wife, 38, whom he married 10 years ago.
Marks, who founded French Connection 35 years ago, will no longer hold a majority stake in his company, which he continues to run.
In addition to the payout, Marks had to give his ex-wife a London mansion plus a holiday home in the Caribbean island of St. Barts.
News of the founder's share sell-off chopped 6 percent off the company's share price.
