TNK-BP focuses on Siberia

MOSCOW, June 22 (UPI) -- The TNK-BP oil company plans to focus on developing oil and gas fields in Eastern Siberia, its managing director said Tuesday.

TNK-BP plans to join the consortium of Gazprom, Rosneft and Surgutneftegas to develop the Eastern Siberian energy fields, Viktor Vekselberg, the company's managing director for production and technologies said, according to a RosBusiness Consulting report.

"We plan to reach an agreement on the development of fields in Eastern Siberia within the framework of the consortium," Vekselberg said. A lot would depend on the position that the Russian government will take on the laying of a new oil pipeline from Eastern Siberia, he said.

TNK-BP President Robert Dudley said that if private investors were allowed to participate in the further development of Russia's pipeline system, the company would consider the possibility of making an investment in this sector
