NEW YORK, May 10 (UPI) -- Wall Street ended down Monday -- the Dow ended under 10,000 -- amid a worsening situation in Iraq and concerns the U.S. budget deficit might hurt growth.

U.S. non-farm business payrolls grew by 288,000 during April, the Wall Street Journal reported, raising fears the Federal Reserve Board would move sooner than expected to raise interest rates.

The dollar rose to 113.660 yen from 112.21, and the euro fell to $1.1854 from $1.1888.

Tokyo's Nikkei stock average dropped 225 554.12, or 4.8 percent, to 10,884.70. London's FTSE 100 share index dropped 103.20, or 2.29 percent, to close at 4,395.20.
