Japan hopes for economic recovery

TOKYO, April 10 (UPI) -- The Japanese central bankhas issued a strong report on the state of the nation's economy, creating hopes of economic recovery, the BBC reported Saturday.

The Bank of Japan said the Japanese economy was gradually improving, with domestic demand on the rise and corporate profits following suit.

Japan's brightened economic prospects were largely helped by a recent drop in the value of the U.S. dollar against the yen, which triggered an export boom, the BBC said.

The business climate in Japan has also been improved by efforts to rid the country's banks of the massive debts built up during the boom years of the 1980s.

However, analysts said it is still too soon to declare an end to Japan's economic troubles, since the country's previous export-led growth periods have always ended before recovery could take hold.
