Indonesia' investment climate poor

JAKARTA, March 19 (UPI) -- Indonesia's investment climate is in a poor condition with weak exports and labor disputes still a concern, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said.

Reports of higher investment figures are only related to approved projects, not realized investments, and this is evident from the fact that imports of machinery remains slow, the chamber said.

Investment has been scarce over the past couple of years due rampant corruption, legal uncertainty, poor implementation of regional autonomy and lingering labor conflicts, the Jakarta Post reports.

The country needs to boost investment activities for the economy to grow much faster than the past years' 4 percent to create jobs.
