UPI's 'Faces of Globalization' series

WASHINGTON, March 17 (UPI) -- UPI continues "Faces of Globalization" series Thursday.

"Though it involves hard work and commitment, Lillian Zhang is living a Chinese student's dream: studying for a much sought-after degree from the London School of Economics. But she's not living in London. She's actually based in Singapore, studying for the degree at Stansfield College." -- from Globalized Education, by Sonia Kolesnikov-Jessop.

This piece from Singapore continues a half-year "Faces of Globalization" series that focuses each week on one or more workers in locales ranging from India, China, South America, Europe and the Middle East to the heartland of the United States. "Faces" articles look at a wide range of social and economic issues facing those whose jobs have been affected for good or ill by the worldwide interconnection of investment, trade and technology that has come to be known as globalization.

Last week UPI launched the series with a look at the dark side of outsourcing in India and its burnout effect on educated workers. Next week, in a story from Paris, "Faces" looks at immigrant Muslim workers in Europe and the cultural clash they encounter.
